The NBA Finals matchup is finally set: Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs will take on Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks in a highly anticipated showdown.
>While the Knicks cruised past the Cleveland Cavaliers in four games to emerge from the East, the Spurs needed to go the distance to get past the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals. And they had to go on the road to close it out on Saturday in a decisive Game 7. While Wembanyama led the way with 22, San Antonio had a total of six players score in double figures in an 111-103 win, while two-time MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was forced to carry a heavy load for the Thunder.
>Now the Spurs will move on to face a well-rested Knicks team that has won 11 straight games and will play for an NBA championship for the first time since 1999 (which, coincidentally, also came against the Spurs).
>The Finals tip on June 3 in San Antonio. And with the Thunder eliminated, a new NBA champion will be crowned for the eighth consecutive season.
>The Suns, Trail Blazers, Hawks, Nuggets, Rockets, Celtics, Magic and Raptors were all eliminated in the first round. The 76ers, Lakers, Timberwolves and Pistons all bowed out in the second round.
