3 position battle updates after Day 1 of Jaguars training camp

Following the Jacksonville Jaguars' first training camp practice, there were some noteworthy observations made when it comes to a few key positional battles that will unfold over the next month.

>At running back, Bhayshul Tuten continues to seemingly have a firm grasp on the RB1 role. John Shipley of Jaguars on SI wrote that Tuten was "the most impressive offensive player" on Day 1 of training camp.

>Chris Rodriguez, meanwhile, is back at practice after being sidelined during offseason programs with a foot injury, but he's going through a ramp-up, only participating in individual drills on Wednesday. This allowed Tuten to, again, take the bulk of the first-team reps.

What's happening at linebacker?The assumption all offseason has been that Ventrell Miller will take over the starting linebacker role following Devin Lloyd's departure -- and that could still be what happens. That said, Miller is going to have to earn that title first.

>Second-year linebacker Branson Combs has been pushing Miller for those starting snaps, with Shipley calling it a "true battle."

Competition at right guardVeteran Patrick Mekari is back for his second season in Jacksonville, but he is not guaranteed the starting right guard role. Second-year lineman Wyatt Milum began pushing Mekari for snaps during OTAs and minicamp, and has continued to do so on Day 1 of training camp.

>Gus Logue of Big Cat Country noted in his takeaways that Milum would spend "a significant amount of time playing with the first-team offense." Of course, the caveat here is that there is a long way to go before any starting jobs are determined, but this position will be worth watching as camp unfolds.
