Jan Woitas/dpa-Zentralbild/dpaAdi Hütter is returning to Eintracht Frankfurt for a second term as coach on a contract until 2029, the Bundesliga club said on Sunday.

>Austrian Hütter, 56, takes over from Albert Riera who lasted less than four months after succeeding Dino Toppmöller.

>Frankfurt finished a disappointing eighth by their standard in the past Bundesliga season to miss out on European football next term.

>Hütter's first term was 2018-2021. He led Frankfurt into the Europa League semi-finals in his first season and into the German Cup semis a year later.

>He then worked at Borussia Mönchengladbach and French league side Monaco where he had to go in October.

>His Frankfurt exit in 2021 was not without controversy because he had a contract for two more years. But that is forgotten now as he becomes the eighth man to land a second term as Frankfurt coach.

>“Adi Hütter stands for brave attacking football, clarity and discipline," Frankfurt board member for sport Markus Krösche said.

>"After very good talks, we are convinced that we can advance Eintracht together. It’s an advantage that Adi knows the structures, the environment and the people in and around the club, and won’t really need a settling-in period."

>Hütter said: "For me it’s very special and emotional to be coach at Eintracht again. The time we had together in Frankfurt left a big impression on me and has always stayed with me. Looking back, I always had the feeling of having unfinished business."

>The task won't be easy as Frankfurt plan a major squad overhaul after the disappointing 2025-26 season.
