Alexandria stays in first place in Sunshine with home win over Mudcats

Jun. 24—ALEXANDRIA, S.D. — Alexandria exploded for 10 runs in a four-inning window for a 10-0, eight-inning Sunshine League amateur baseball victory on Tuesday over the Parkston Mudcats.

>The game was scoreless until Alexandria scored a run in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth before posting four runs in the seventh and three in the eighth.

>The win kept Alexandria in first place in the Sunshine League, improving to 7-2 in league play. The Mudcats dropped to 6-2 after the Angels completed the regular season sweep, while Platte is 5-2 in league contests.

>For the Angels, Alex Mizsak was the winning pitcher, allowing two hits and no runs, striking out six with two walks. Jack Gray had 3 2/3 innings of relief without a run or base on balls, allowing two hits and striking out three.

>Carter Brown had two doubles and three RBIs to pace Alexandria on offense, and Jerrod Zens and Ben Wilber each had two RBIs. Ben Wilber had three hits, and Dakota Munger and Tyson Gau each had two hits, and all three players contributed to Alexandria's six team doubles in the win.

>The Mudcats were held to four hits, one each for Luke Bormann, Jeff Harris, Gunnar Wilhelm and Max Scott. Mason Herman was charged with the loss, allowing 11 hits and six earned runs and two strikeouts and Taite Klumb recorded four outs in relief for the Mudcats.

>Alexandria (9-2 overall) travels to Mount Vernon for a 7:30 p.m. game Thursday in Sunshine League play. Parkston (8-4) will host Winner/Colome at 8 p.m. Thursday.
