Arizona Cardinals Executive Responds After NFL Gambling Policy Ban

The NFL dropped the hammer on an Arizona Cardinals executive Friday, issuing an indefinite suspension over alleged violations of the league’s gambling policy, including betting on NFL games.

We have demanded an appeal, and we look forward to clearing his good name.”

class="wp-block-paragraph">Gold plans to appeal the indefinite suspension, with his legal team insisting the league’s case doesn’t hold up. But the NFL has drawn a hard line on gambling, strictly prohibiting personnel from betting on NFL games, having others place wagers on their behalf, or sharing confidential “inside information.”

The NFL did not disclose who allegedly received the draft information.

class="wp-block-paragraph">Caspino disputed both claims, arguing that the gambling activity involved Gold’s wife placing $10 weekly parlay bets with a group of high school friends and that Gold had no role in them. He also maintained that Gold couldn’t have leaked Arizona’s draft plans because he wasn’t involved in the final decision-making process, saying only team owner Michael Bidwill and general manager Monti Ossenfort knew which players the Cardinals would ultimately select.

class="wp-block-paragraph">Despite the appeal, the Cardinals stood firmly behind the league’s ruling, issuing a statement Friday saying they “fully support the league’s decision in this matter.”

class="wp-block-paragraph">Gold, now entering his 13th season with the organization, was promoted to director of college scouting in June 2025 after serving three years as assistant director of college scouting. Before that, he spent four seasons as the Cardinals’ college scouting coordinator.
