The Arizona Cardinals wrapped up their offseason program earlier this month, and teams now have the next month to rest and prepare for training camp. Over OTAs and minicamp, players got to show off their skills between drills, 7-on-7s and 11-on-11s.
>Every year, we try to get a glimpse at who could stand out and surprise. ESPN's Josh Weinfuss named the Cardinals' biggest surprise of the offseason program.
>He named receiver Devin Duvernay.
Duvernay, who signed a one-year deal in March and is on his fourth team in four years, showcased his speed throughout OTAs and minicamp in drills on offense and special teams. His quickness will add a dynamic element to the Cardinals' return game and if/when he's used as a receiver.
Duvernay essentially replaces Greg Dortch for the return game. The two-time Pro Bowl return specialist has been good but hasn't been special for a few seasons.
>Last year, he averaged 26.7 yards per kick return and 11.0 yards per punt return. Those were similar numbers to Dortch's stats last year, who averaged 26.2 on kick returns and 11.6 on punt returns.
>But Dortch was used much more on offense, catching 29 passes on 292 offensive snaps.
>Duvernay played only 40 offensive snaps last season for the Chicago Bears and had two receptions.
>Duvernay tracks to be the Cardinals' fourth wide receiver, which means little to no role on offense, as they will use at least one tight end almost every play. He will likely be their primary returner, but his impact might not be more than what Dortch has been for the last few seasons.
