Arizona Digest. Rattlers sign QB Dalton Sneed for IFL playoffs

Summer is here in Arizona, and there’s plenty of activity, including college sports and a new season for the Phoenix Mercury, Phoenix Rising FC and Arizona Rattlers. Here are updates on news and events happening around Arizona sports:

Rattlers sign QB Dalton Sneed for playoffsThe Rattlers signed quarterback Dalton Sneed for the Indoor Football League playoffs, which begin Sunday, Aug. 2, when they travel to take on No. 2-seed Vegas Knight Hawks. The game is set for 2:30 p.m. MST.

>Sneed, who starred in high school at Scottsdale Horizon, has not been with the Rattlers this year. He led the Rattlers to the IFL title two seasons ago. Before that, he led the Bay Area Panthers to a championship. He had retired following the 2025 season, but he will come out of retirement for the playoffs.

>"We had to turn in a playoff roster, and we added him for depth," coach Kevin Guy said. "That's the one position you don't want any issues.

>"You have to play three straight games without any changes to the roster. We decided we want three quarterbacks on the roster in case anything happens."

>Max Meylor and Drew Powell still are the Rattlers' top two quarterbacks. Meylor likely will start for the No. 3-seeded Rattlers (11-5) against the Knight Hawks (12-4), who beat Arizona twice in the regular season.

>Sneed didn't work out with the Rattlers this week, but Guy said they've done Zoom meetings and he'll be ready to go if he's called on against the Knight Hawks. Sneed, who has been coaching at his alma mater, the University of Montana, will join the Rattlers in Las Vegas.

>"He knows the offense inside out," Guy said.
