Bill Guerin Fires Back at Biz Over Wild Playoff Prediction

They will play their first 2026-27 regular-season game on Thursday (Oct. 1) in Nashville.

>But the best part of the night probably happened in the booth early in the game. That was when Bill Guerin was interviewed by the TNT broadcasting crew, but more on that momentarily.

>First, let’s rewind to earlier in the day, when another former NHLer — Paul Bissonnette, now one of hockey’s most popular podcasters — was itching to talk about the MN Wild on the latest episode of Spittin’ Chiclets.

Biz does not believe in the 2026-27 Minnesota WildAnd it wasn’t for the reasons you would hope, as a Wild fan. Quite the opposite, in fact. In what he billed as his “hot take of the century,” Biz proclaimed that Minnesota will miss the 2026-27 NHL playoffs.

>His reasoning won’t surprise you, if you have been following along. Essentially, Biz believes the MN Wild are light up the middle and on the verge of losing Quinn Hughes, whom they acquired from Vancouver in December 2025 for Marco Rossi, Zeev Buium, Liam Ohgren and a first-round pick.

>Biz: “Because I think that they’re gonna get off to a little bit of a tough start. And I think that the Quinn Hughes noise is gonna get loud. What are they gonna do, dude? They have Eriksson Ek at center ice? Who the f*** are their other centermen? Hartman might play center. I just think it’s a strong division. It’s a strong conference. I think that they’re riding the high of last year, and now they got this daunting storyline coming in that Quinn Hughes wants nothing to do with them. He’s a f***ing Quinn-chenko.”

>Whitney: “They got Boldy, Kaprizov’s a superstar… Dude, you’re nuts if you think this team’s missing playoffs… They got maybe the best top four in the league in Quinn Hughes, Faber, Brodin and Spurgeon. I love their goalie. They got the Wall of St. Paul… You guys are gonna look like idiots when they’re 10-3 out of the gate, and then the city’s rocking and Quinn Hughes signs an extension. You guys are idiots.”

>Biz: “Then they should be kissing our ass for reversing the curse. I mean, yeah, it’s a nice top four, but 25% of it is gonna be gone halfway through the year.”

>In 2026, word travels around the world pretty quickly… or so I’ve been told. Thus, it was not surprising that Biz’s bold prediction made its way to Minnesota Wild president of hockey operations Bill Guerin by the time he got into the TNT broadcast booth on Friday evening during the Wild vs Stars preseason game.

Bill Guerin fires back at BizAt the end of the interview, longtime NHL announcer John Forslund decided to ask Guerin if he had seen the Spittin’ Chiclets clip. If so, he gave Billy the opportunity to respond on National TV, which he took advantage of.

>Of course Guerin had seen the clip. He and Biz are buddies, so Billy was definitely going to take the spotlight to fire shots across the bow at Bissonnette, noting that “usually it takes someone that’s been in the playoffs to comment on the playoffs.”

>Forslund: “Usually.”

>Guerin: “Usually it takes somebody that’s been in the playoffs to comment on playoffs. Yeah. I guess he could say what he wants for his clicks and everything like that, but we got 84 games to prove him wrong. Coming for you, Biz.”

>A quick peek at Biz’s NHL career will tell you that he had more than a cup of coffee in the best hockey league in the world, playing in 202 regular season games where he scored a total of 7 goals and posted 22 points.

>As far as his postseason contributions… well, Billy was mostly right on that. Biz reached the NHL playoffs twice, both times with Phoenix, appearing in four postseason games. He averaged just over three minutes of ice time, with zero points and 15 penalty minutes.

>Guerin, on the other hand, played in 1,263 regular-season games during his career, scoring 429 goals and totaling 856 points. Billy also played in 140 playoff games spread across 15 different postseason runs, scoring 39 goals and totaling 74 points and winning two Stanley Cups (1995 with New Jersey, 2009 with Pittsburgh).

>Biz, for his part, took the chirp in stride on X, while insisting he did, in fact, play in the playoffs.
