Brewers are one trade away from challenging the Dodgers in the National League

The Brewers don’t need three MLB trade deadline additions. They need ONE. Milwaukee has quietly built one of the deepest, most fundamentally sound rosters in baseball. The bullpen remains excellent. The defense is reliable. The lineup manufactures runs in multiple ways. What’s missing is another frontline starter capable of changing a postseason series. That’s why the Brewers should be aggressive.

The problem, of course, is availability. Detroit still appears reluctant to move him, and any deal would require an enormous prospect package. Even with continued speculation, league expectation remains that Skubal stays put unless someone overwhelms the Tigers.

If Skubal isn’t realistic, Reid Detmers deserves serious consideration.His ERA doesn’t tell the full story. The strikeout rate, underlying metrics and remaining team control make him exactly the type of pitcher Milwaukee has consistently developed into something even better.

Then there’s Freddy Peralta.A reunion may sound unlikely, but his underlying metrics remain stronger than his traditional numbers, and recent reporting suggests he’s a realistic trade candidate if the Mets continue looking toward the future.
