Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson hands off to running back Quinshon Judkins as teammates Dylan Sampson (22) and Shedeur Sanders (2) watch on the first day of minicamp in Berea, June 9, 2026. | Mike Cardew / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images As we are just a few weeks away from the start of Cleveland Browns training camp, fans can start to get excited about what the team can become. A young roster with upside, HC Todd Monken is tasked with making something out of an offensive unit that was downright terrible last year. The revamped offensive line could see a rededication to running the football, perhaps at a high clip.

class="wp-block-paragraph">Quinshon Judkins leads the Cleveland depth chart, after being listed just outside of the Top 10 of running backs in the NFL. Judkins, returning from injury, has a chance to establish himself among the top tier of NFL backs with a great 2026 season, but he is not going to be able to do it alone.

class="wp-block-paragraph">As he does every year, Chris Pokorny will have an in-depth look at all the roster spots heading into training camp. This series is more of an appetizer for that main course.

class="wp-block-paragraph">Cleveland’s offense is led by a very good offensive line and run game, including Judkins exploding for over 1,000 yards rushing with a high yards per carry average (5.0). It is vital that Sampson, Sanders, and whoever might be the fourth back take some of the burden off of Judkins, however, especially in the passing game.

class="wp-block-paragraph">If Judkins can top 1,000 yards, Sampson combine for over 800 total yards, and Sanders prove to be a powerful goal line back with five or more touchdowns, the Browns running back room will be among the elite.

class="wp-block-paragraph">Worst Case Scenario

class="wp-block-paragraph">Judkins looks timid or sluggish returning from injury with an offensive line that struggles to gel and proves to be a player or two away from at least an average unit. Cleveland will also struggle if the rest of the running back room proves to be limited in their ability to make an impact. If Sampson is too small to be a threat running the ball and Sanders can’t pick up enough speed to burst through holes, Judkins could get worn down as the season goes on.

class="wp-block-paragraph">Lack of quality quarterback play could also greatly impact the rushing attack.
