CIAC girls soccer stars New Canaan's Clare Greisen, Amity's Maggie Kershnar to miss 2026 season

(Arnold Gold/Hearst Connecticut Media) New Canaan girls soccer forward and All-American Clare Greisen is out for the season, New Canaan coach Rich Hickson confirmed Tuesday.

>The news was first reported by the New England Soccer Journal, which stated that Greisen "was shut down for the fall season in late August because of an injury." Hickson didn't disclose the nature of the injury, but did say it was not ACL-related.

>Greisen is not the only future Division I player and 2025 GametimeCT First Team All-State selection out for this season.

>Amity striker Maggie Kershnar suffered an ACL injury and won't play this year, Amity coach Owen Quigley said. Kershnar is committed to play at UConn beginning in 2027.

>Greisen, a two-time GametimeCT All-State First Team selection, was named an All-American last season. She has committed to play soccer at Northwestern University in the Big Ten Conference.

>Greisen finished the 2025 season with 26 goals and 10 assists, leading the Rams to the Class LL tournament semifinals. She is the reigning FCIAC Player of the Year and an All-New England selection who has 53 goals and 23 assists over two seasons at New Canaan, which won FCIAC and Class LL championships in 2024. Greisen finished the LL tournament with nine goals, including a hat trick against North Haven in the quarterfinals.

>Kershnar recorded 22 goals and 15 assists last season, helping Amity reach the CIAC Class LL final, the program's first appearance in a state championship game since 2006. She was the SCC Player of the Year in 2024.
