class="has-text-align-none">If that name sounds familiar, there’s a good reason. Nussmeier is the younger brother of former LSU QB standout Garrett Nussmeier and the son of longtime coach Doug Nussmeier, who worked with Kirby Smart at Alabama as the Tide’s offensive coordinator in 2012 and 2013.
class="has-text-align-none">The commitment is welcome news for a Bulldog program that had struggled to lock down an elite quarterback in the 2027 class. Nussmeier committed to Georgia coaches on Friday night, forgoing his planned official visit to Arkansas. In addition to the Razorbacks Nussmeier also claimed offers from the likes of UCLA, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Indiana, LSU, and Texas Tech.
class="has-text-align-none">Nussmeier visited LSU, Georgia, Florida, and Alabama for camps and unofficial visits as he navigated a deliberate recruitment. Many thought the family connection to LSU and the hype surrounding Lane Kiffin’s impending tenure in Red Stick made Baton Rouge a real possibility for much of the process. For years, many assumed the younger Nussmeier would eventually follow his brother’s footsteps to Baton Rouge.
class="has-text-align-none">Instead, the relationship between the Nussmeier family and Kirby Smart appears to have proved decisive. Nussmeier had been in consistent contact with offensive coordinator Mike Bobo for awhile, and repeatedly pointed to the staff and program culture as reasons Georgia stood out. As much as Bobo’s playcalling may frustrate some Bulldog fans, he’s put his students in the NFL. That means a lot for discerning recruits.

class="has-text-align-none">Nussmeier has the potential to develop into an elite college QB under this Georgia coaching staff. He has solid size (6’3.5, 195 pounds) and a big arm. Obviously Nussmeier comes from a football family, and has seen what it takes to succeed I. The SEC. While he missed some time as a junior in 2025 with a knee injury, he has put plenty of high-level throws on tape and performed well in camp settings.
class="has-text-align-none">Nussmeier’s solid lower body mechanics and efficient release mean he shines in the short to intermediate passing game. He has the football IQ you’d expect from a coach’s kid, and a little of the gunslinger attitude Georgia fans may remember from watching his older brother at LSU. While he needs to work on being more consistent in his mechanics and needs to continue to develop physically, Nussmeier is certainly one of the top ten signal callers available in this class. While he may not have over-the-top athleticism, he’s a “high hit rate prospect”, the kind of player with a high floor coaches can sleep well at night having picked up.
class="has-text-align-none">Big Picture
class="has-text-align-none">With Nussmeier’s pledge (and with a rapid-fire series of five other commitments over the past week), Georgia now has 13 commitments in the Class of 2027. Landing a quarterback of Nussmeier’s pedigree should also help the Bulldogs attract additional offensive talent, as elite recruits tend to follow elite signal callers.
