Dana White shares health update on Raoni Barcelos

Raoni Barcelos suffered one of the scariest knockouts in UFC history.

>The Brazilian upheld a frantic pace against the much younger Raul Rosas Jr. on Saturday. Determined to show the world, and his opponent, that his age won’t slow him down. And he did just that. A stellar performance all the way up until the final round. Barcelos was ahead on all judges’ scorecards, and would have likely gotten his hand raised had he avoided being finished in the final minutes. But Barcelos didn’t just lose; he had a health scare that many believed could be the first death inside the UFC.

>Fortunately, that wasn’t the case. Raoni Barcelos was transported to the hospital, where he spent several nights recovering. Publicly speaking about the situation for the first time, Dana White shared some positive news.

>“Thank God he’s doing well. He’s doing well, yeah. He’s up, walking around. Talking,” White said.

>Everyone, including Dana White, is glad to see Barcelos conscious and able to walk and talk.

>Those who also deserve credit for their swift dealings with the frightening events on Saturday are the medical staff. White shed praise on the UFC and its workers for their diligent efforts.

>“It goes right in line with everything that I always talk about and what we do. All the pre-fight medicals were triple-checked; everything was good,” White continued. “There were six doctors here that night. Three ambulances. He was taken straight to the trauma center, not to Valley. Everything was done the right way, and the outcome was good.”

>Questions remain about whether Raoni Barcelos will compete again. At 39, suffering a scare as he did is incredibly concerning. But as long as Barcelos is fine, Dana White doesn’t care.

>“Not even thinking about that. Who gives a sh*t as long as the kid is OK,” White added
