Detroit Tigers catcher Dillon Dingler (13) celebrates a three run home run against Minnesota Twins with second baseman Gleyber Torres (25) and shortstop Zach McKinstry (39) at Comerica Park in Detroit on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. | Junfu Han / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images All-Star voting is a popularity contest, we know this much. While it’s nice to think that the All-Star Game is about skill and showing off who is best of the best, the reality is that it’s often a chance to spotlight the best-loved players as opposed to perhaps the most deserving. Without a complete overhaul of how the system works, though, that’s not going to change anytime soon. What that means is that Dillon Dingler, perhaps one of the most deserving catchers in the game, and most certainly the most deserving player on the Tigers, won’t make it to the All-Star Game on popular voting alone.
