class="wp-block-paragraph">The defining number for each NFL team in 2026 – NFL.com NUMBER: 28.4%. How will first-time OC Sean Mannion’s offense differ from that of his predecessor in Philly, Kevin Patullo? Consider this: Patullo used spread formations on 28.4% of plays last year, second-most in the league, but Mannion is a branch off the Sean McVay tree. Of the six play-callers with the lowest spread rates in 2025, three were McVay disciples, one was McVay himself and one was McVay’s brother-in-ball, Kyle Shanahan. My prediction: The ‘26 Eagles will look a lot like the offenses borne from McVay’s machinations.

class="wp-block-paragraph">5 unanswered mid-summer Eagles questions – BGN Can Jalen Hurts flourish under Sean Mannion? Hurts has yet another new offensive coordinator to contend with, and all eyes on how he will adapt to a brand new style of offense that will challenge him to do things differently in 2026. Mannion’s scheme is expected to involve more under center plays and utilize more of Hurts’ receivers over the middle, two areas Hurts doesn’t feel comfortable doing yet has shown he can excel doing both. He no longer has A.J. Brown on the outside, with is both a blessing and a curse. It sometimes appeared as if Hurts was forcing the ball to Brown, either to keep his former star receiver from complaining too loudly or because the offense was so stale the only option was to throw it up and hope Brown came down with it. Without Brown demanding so much attention, and with a cadre of new receivers led by DeVonta Smith, perhaps Hurts will excel in a new scheme designed to get players open without relying solely on them winning one-on-one battles all the time. One other aspect of all of this is Hurts and running the football. Hurts stopped running in 2026. He just stopped. Even as the offense flailed, he refused to run, even in their playoff loss to the 49ers. Will he need to run in Mannion’s offense? If so, will he do it? If Hurts isn’t going to run, he needs to show a dramatic improvement as a passer in order to succeed.

class="wp-block-paragraph">Things to watch for at Eagles training camp: Interior offensive line edition – PhillyVoice Micah Morris is a sixth-round rookie project. He is unpolished, but he is big (6’5, 334) and athletically gifted. Morris isn’t likely to be active on gamedays, but there should be ample opportunity for him to make the 53-man roster since the Eagles like to carry double-digit offensive linemen on their 53. He’ll have to show at least something to stick. […] One player I’m curious to watch throughout camp and the preseason games is Willie Lampkin, an extreme oddity of an offensive lineman who is only 5’11 and weighs just 290 pounds. Lampkin was a Rams undrafted free agent who mostly played RG in college, but got some work at center. He was a beast in their preseason games.

class="wp-block-paragraph">Hollywood Brown is a former first-rounder and 1,000-yard receiver. The Eagles are giving him another chance at NFL relevance. – Inquirer Candidly, Basquine doesn’t know if the numbers will reflect that resurgence. But that doesn’t mean Brown can’t impact opposing defenses, especially playing in a modern offense led by Jalen Hurts, Basquine’s quarterback during his senior year at OU. “The threat that Marquise poses, it’s going to impact the defense,” Basquine said. “Whether they play two-high shell or one high, Marquise’s presence, even though he’s not going to be the first guy people think of, people who know football and understand the threat of speed, you always have to account for it. Marquise is still blazing fast. The stats probably won’t show up, but the stress and the game plan the defense has to do because of that is going to be valuable in itself.”

class="wp-block-paragraph">Roob’s Eagles Observations: Bryce Huff’s hilariously misguided memory of 2024 – NBCSP REMEMBER THAT GUY? It’s insane how quickly things can change in the NFL. A year ago, Mekhi Becton was considered a huge loss for the Eagles after making the transition from 1st-round offensive tackle bust with the Jets to starting right guard on a Super Bowl champion. Becton signed a two-year, $20 million contract with the Chargers and things did not go well. His 37.1 Pro Football Focus grade was 2nd-worst among 67 guards who played at least 500 snaps last year and and his 35.5 run blocking grade was worst. It was so bad the Chargers released him in March after paying him $9.65 million of that $20 million, and here we are four months later and he still doesn’t have a job. Becton just turned 27, he’s a year removed from starting for a championship team and he can’t get a job. Crazy.

class="wp-block-paragraph">Which U.S. area has best NFL players? Eight teams, Cup winner – ESPN Northeast. Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont. Is it fair that California has to make a team out of one state’s talents while the Northeast can call on 10? You be the judge, but keep in mind that most of this roster comes from New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Four of the states didn’t contribute a single player, while several more contributed no more than two. QB: Joe Flacco, Bengals; Will Levis, Titans. Yep, I double-checked. The only quarterbacks who racked up even a single passing yard from this region last season were Flacco and Kenny Pickett. And I chose Levis over Pickett as the second quarterback. There weren’t even any options I could have chosen from this year’s draft. I didn’t even mention Bryce Young as a candidate in California, and he would be the obvious starter here. The Northeast not having any quarterbacks after so many superstars came out of Pennsylvania over the years is like the United States fielding Premier League keepers for decades and not having anyone playing at a high level in Europe for the 2026 World Cup. RB: Saquon Barkley, Eagles; Jonathan Taylor, Colts. This team is the antithesis of California. Barkley and Taylor will be the focal points of what will be a run-heavy and play-action-based team given the options at quarterback. D’Andre Swift would be the clear favorite to start for California if he were eligible; instead, he doesn’t make the Northeast team behind these two stars.

class="wp-block-paragraph">America Is 250, and Philadelphia Is Its No. 1 Sports City – Athlon Sports 9) The Philly Special. No play is more synonymous with a city than the Philly Special in Super Bowl LII. Eagles quarterback Nick Foles mistakenly called for “Philly Philly” before catching the fourth-down touchdown to help beat the Patriots. Nothing is more Philadelphia than accidentally naming the play after the city.

class="wp-block-paragraph">Dak Prescott vs. quality opponents: What the numbers tell us – Blogging The Boys We’ve seen that Prescott ranks third overall in passer rating against playoff teams, we’ve also seen that he outperforms against teams with winning records. We have data that shows how good he is under pressure. None of this squares with the narratives about stat-padding, weakness under pressure, or not performing against quality opponents. [BLG Note: 2-5 in the playoffs with one of those wins coming over a below .500 team.]

class="wp-block-paragraph">Is Brandon Aiyuk taking a shot at Jayden Daniels? – Hogs Haven This is the latest IG story salvo from Brandon Aiyuk. I know everyone’s tired of them, but this seems to be a shot (or several of them) at Commanders QB Jayden Daniels. JD5 is tagged in all three IG stories.

class="wp-block-paragraph">NFC East Grades: Where do the Giants stack up at wide receiver? – Big Blue View The trade of AJ Brown dropped the overall division down and left Dallas with the clear-cut best combo. Nabers’ injury may slow him down in 2025, but he’s in the conversation for being the best receiver in the division, although Lamb has earned that distinction. The Giants and Eagles could be flipped, but I agree with the science on the one- and four-point recipients, which brings our total through the defense, wide receivers, and tight ends to what you see below:
