Elgin gets back on track in Week 6 football, plus more results

Elgin snapped its two-game skid with a 38-22 Northwest Central Conference home victory over Upper Scioto Valley in a Week 6 contest Sept. 25.

>Abram Norton led the Elgin offense with 187 yards on 30 carries, scoring four touchdowns. Braydon Lowry ran for 86 yards on nine carries, plus had two punts inside the 20 and a kickoff go for a touchback on special teams. Russell Norton Jr. scored the other Elgin touchdown.

>The Comets came up with 20 tackles for loss and six sacks on defense. Leading Elgin were Russell Norton with seven tackles, three tackles for loss and an interception, Cooper Lykins with seven tackles, Drew Brown with six tackles, five tackles for loss and two sacks, Stone Rhodes with six tackles and three tackles for loss, Finn Van Gundy with a safety, adn Jackson Rice and Zack Bowers with interceptions.

>Elgin is now 4-2, 3-1, while USV drops to 3-3, 2-2.

North Union 21, Indian Lake 7The Wildcats (4-2, 1-0) never trailed Indian Lake (3-3, 0-1) in the Central Buckeye Conference Mad River Division opener, jumping to a 14-0 lead in the second quarter and holding a 21-7 edge at halftime.

>North Union outgained the Lakers 300-223 and outpaced them in first downs 19-11. Indian Lake hurt NU by forcing three turnovers.

>NU's Nickolas Hajjar was 6-for-12 passing for 89 yards and a touchdown pass to Wyatt Arver who had four receptions for 28 yards. Arver ran it 20 times for 103 yards, and Hajjar added 50 yards on 18 carries. Dylan Bevins made eight tackles with three sacks and three tackles for loss, and Kadrin Riffle had two tackles for loss for the Wildcats.

Highland 24, Galion 21The Scots (2-4, 1-2) trailed 21-10 in the fourth period. Just one first down (Highland 12-11) and 10 yards (Highland 262-252) separated these two teams in the Mid Ohio Athletic Conference game.

>Caiden Daugherty was 3 of 5 passing for 110 yards and a touchdown. Hudson Howell had two of those catches for 97 yards and a score. Kane Stover led the ground attack with 29 runs for 143 yards and two touchdowns.

>The defense proved stout against Galion (2-4, 0-3), recording four sacks and 10 tackles for loss. Leading it was Stover with 12 tackles, while Hayden Moore had five tackles, a fumble recovery and an interception. Dylan Wiggand recovered a fumble, and Chase Justice forced a safety.

Fredericktown 21, Mount Gilead 12The Freddies (4-2, 2-1) led 7-0 at halftime, but MG cut it to 7-6 in the third period and scored a second time with two minutes left to trail 14-12. Fredericktown scored again in the closing seconds of the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference game.

>For Mount Gilead (3-3, 1-2), Tyler Harr caught a 55-yard pass and ran 18 times for 138 yards and a touchdown. Boe Sayers ran for 92 yards on 19 carries and Grant LaRoche had 41 yards on five tries, scoring a 16-yard touchdown. Kaden St. Clair led the defense with 17 tackles and five tackles for loss.

Danville 57, Northmor 7The KMAC game was 8-7 after the first period, then Danville (6-0, 3-0) outscored the Golden Knights (1-5, 1-2) 49-0 the rest of the way. The Blue Devils limited Northmor to three first downs and 56 total yards, while racking up 18 first downs and 420 yards with 339 coming in the air.

>Kellan Walters was Northmor's top passer, going 3-for-4 for 26 yards. Tanner Miley threw a 3-yard TD to Jackson Welch. Reed Ciballi was the Northmor's top receiver with three catches for 26 yards.

Shelby 54, River Valley 0The Whippets (6-0, 3-0) forced four turnovers from River Valley (0-6, 0-3). Carter Myers topped the Vikings on offense with five catches for 53 yards, while Brennan Dodds and Nolan Bailey both recovered fumbles for RV.

Other resultsOntario beat Pleasant 21-7 in the MOAC, while Cory-Rawson nipped Ridgedale 3-0 in the NWCC, and East Knox rolled Cardington-Lincoln 57-7. No other details were made available from these three games.

Marion Star Football Player of Week 5 Poll winnerMarion Harding's Jaden Jordan filled in at quarterback and went 11-for-18 for 215 yards and two touchdowns plus 37 rushing yards in a win over River Valley. He earned 2,560 of 5.641 votes for 46 percent to win it by edging Pleasant's Collin Caudill who had 2,522 votes for 45 percent. Other nominees were North Union's Nickolas Hajjar, Highland's Kane Stover, Elgin's Abram Norton, Mount Gilead's Tyler Harr, River Valley's Carter Myers and Northmor's Brad Bowlin.
