Auburn's quarterback situation has been murky and inconsistent since Bo Nix left the program after the 2021 season. Auburn fans have hopeful optimism that Byrum Brown can be that player this upcoming season.
>ESPN college football analyst Tom Luginbill believes that Brown can be one of the top quarterbacks in the SEC.
>“I think he is in the top 5 or 6," said Luginbill during an appearance on The Next Round. "Now again, I’m I don’t what to say I’m biased, but I’m saying that I’m making that assessment having broadcasted two of his games last fall and watching how he can take over a game.”
>Last season, Brown was the only quarterback in college football to throw for over 3,000 yards and rush for over 1,000. He also scored a total of 42 touchdowns, with 28 through the air and 14 on the ground. Those numbers helped Alex Golesh and the South Florida Bulls win nine games in 2025. However, some people were alarmed during the offseason when video surfaced of Brown's throwing motion. Luginbill does not have concerns over his throwing motion, like others may.
>"He ain’t a guy that you’re going to put up on a room on tape and say this is what the purity of a passer looks like. That is not Byrum Brown. Byrum Brown is a point A to point B. Get it done. Doesn’t matter what it looks like. Ball goes where it’s supposed to go type of guy," Luginbill told The Next Round.
>A lot of eyes will be on Brown when the Tigers open the 2026 season in Atlanta versus the Baylor Bears.
