FC Groningen replace Telstar-bound defender with ‘Slovakian wonderkid’

class="wp-block-paragraph">FC Groningen have reportedly strengthened their squad with Nikolas Brandis. The Slovakian youth international arrives as a replacement for the departed Marvin Peersman and has signed a contract until the summer of 2030.

>

class="wp-block-paragraph">A product of AS Trencin’s academy, the 21-year-old left-footer progressed through the youth system’s ranks and has been described by the Slovaks as a ‘prodigy’.

>

class="wp-block-paragraph">The Pride of the North look to be getting a determined young player who already boasts senior and youth international experience.

>

class="wp-block-paragraph">Brandis broke through at Trencin in 2023 and, after a loan spell in the second tier with Puchov in the 2024/25 season, became one of the club’s mainstays, making 22 appearances last season as his team finished ninth. He also has 10 caps for Slovakia’s U21 set up.

>

class="wp-block-paragraph">As mentioned earlier, Brandis comes in as a Marvin Peersman replacement after his move to Telstar. The Puchov native will serve as great competition for fellow youngster Wouter Prins in the left-back spot.
