Former BYU runners enjoy strong outings during Day 2 of USA track championships

Jaslyn Gardner, a former BYU athlete by way of Enterprise, Utah, placed fifth in the 100-meter dash at Friday’s USA national track and field championships in New York.

>Gardner finished with a time of 11.02 to claim what is believed to be the highest finish ever by a sprinter from Utah. Sha’Carri Richardson was the winner, timed in 10.77.

>Gardner completed her eligibility at BYU in 2024.

>It was a good day for female athletes with BYU connections and are native Utahns. Meghan Hunter had the second fastest time —2:00.32 — in the semifinals of the 800-meter run to qualify for the finals. Only Roisin Willis had a faster time, 1:59.83.

>Sami Oblad advanced to the finals of the 400-meter dash by finishing seventh in the semifinals with a time of 51.95.
