Earlier this offseason, the Miami Dolphins made the decision to move on from starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and bring in former third-round pick Malik Willis on a three-year, $67.5 million deal as his replacement.

>Shortly after his release, Tagovailoa found a new home with the Atlanta Falcons, where he's competing with fellow lefty and former first-round pick Michael Penix for the starting job.

>While the Dolphins wrapped up their minicamp earlier this month, Atlanta held theirs this week, with the final session coming on Wednesday. After the practice wrapped up, ESPN's Marc Raimondi opined about the day that Tagovailoa had.

>"Tua Tagovailoa had arguably one of his best practices of the spring Wednesday -- the Falcons' final day of minicamp," Raimondi wrote. "In an 11-on-11 team session in the red zone, the quarterback went 3-for-3 with a touchdown pass over the middle to running back Bijan Robinson. He also had completions during that series to rookie wide receiver Zachariah Branch and free agent acquisition Jahan Dotson...

>"The Falcons' coaching staff has made it clear that the competition between Tagovailoa and [Michael] Penix is not really a competition at all -- until Penix is 100% and cleared for 11-on-11s. Penix, of course, is just seven months removed from left ACL surgery. While Penix might be on track and maybe even ahead of schedule, he still is not healthy enough to truly compete at this juncture.

>Tagovailoa had some really high moments during his time in South Florida, including in 2022 when he led the league in passer rating and 2023 when he led the league in passing yards.

>However, it was clear that his time in Miami was up after he led the team to a 6-8 record in 2025 while completing 67.7% of his passes for 2,660 yards, 20 touchdowns and 15 interceptions.

>There's a strong chance that he's starting for the Falcons in Week 1, and that will be a great moment.
