The anticipation over what's next for former New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs is finally over.

>On Wednesday, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that the four-time Pro Bowler is signing with the Washington Commanders. The deal comes after Diggs spent the entire offseason and training camp contemplating his next move after being released by the Patriots ahead of free agency.

>Diggs served as the top receiving target for Patriots quarterback Drake Maye last season, racking up 85 catches for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns. It was an impressive bounce-back season after he suffered a torn ACL the previous year with the Houston Texans.

— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) August 5, 2026Despite him being one of the top locker room leaders, the Patriots opted to move on from Diggs, who was set to cost $26.5 million against the 2026 salary cap. They instead used their resources to sign former Green Bay Packers veteran Romeo Doubs, while also pulling off a blockbuster trade with the Philadelphia Eagles for three-time All-Pro wideout A.J. Brown.

>Diggs will now have a chance to be influential on another young football team led by a burgeoning star quarterback in Jayden Daniels.
