INDIANAPOLIS — Isaiah Thompson's coaching career, and his extended connection to Purdue basketball, will continue with his next job.
>Notre Dame announced earlier this month the former Boilermaker player and graduate assistant will join Micah Shrewsberry's staff as director of player development and recruiting coordinator. Shrewsberry was one of Matt Painter's assistants during two of Thompson's season as a Purdue player.
>Thompson, the brother of Purdue associate head coach P.J. Thompson, spent the past two seasons as a GA. The Zionsville grad started 60 of his 96 games as a Boilermaker, averaging 4.6 points while shooting 39.1% from 3-point range. He also played two seasons at Florida Gulf Coast, averaging 14.6 points and 2.7 assists while shooting 38% from 3.
>“Isaiah has been embedded in high-level basketball environments throughout his career,” Shrewsberry said in a news release. “As an outstanding former point guard, he understands the game from a player’s perspective, which will be a real asset for our guys every day. He understands the habits, discipline, and standards that come with sustained success.”
>Thompson scored 2,139 points in his Zionsville career, breaking former Butler coach Brad Stevens' career record. He was an Indiana All-Star along with future Boilermaker teammates Mason Gillis and Brandon Newman.
