Germany defeated Finland 4-0 in their first World Cup warm-up match but they will be sweating on the fitness of Deniz Undav.
>The Stuttgart forward scored Germany's first and third goals either side of half time and took a knock when scoring his second goal.
>He was replaced four minutes later by Borussia Dortmund striker Maximilian Beier and went straight down the tunnel.
>Undav took full advantage of Kai Havertz's absence to score twice and provide an assist for Florian Wirtz, with the Arsenal forward being involved in Saturday's Champions League final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.
>The 29-year-old seized his opportunity with his fifth and sixth goals in his last eight appearances for the national team, in addition to laying on a cross for the simplest of finishes for Wirtz.
>Head coach Julian Nagelsmann had said he did not want to experiment too much in the final build-up and so the goals may not be enough for Undav to force his way into the starting line-up, but he provided a timely reminder of his value to the team.
>The Germany boss did field an attacking line-up with Bayern Munich's 18-year-old prodigy Lennart Karl making his first start alongside Jamal Musiala and Wirtz in a three behind Undav.
>The Stuttgart striker (twice), Musiala and Wirtz all had efforts saved by Lukas Hradecky before the hosts finally made the breakthrough in the 34th minute.
>Karl played a corner short to club-mate Joshua Kimmich whose cross to the far post saw Undav nip in front of Nikolai Alho and pop up behind Tony Miettienen to steer home a stooping header.
>Wirtz fired narrowly wide from the edge of the area just before the break but he did not have to wait long for his goal as he profited from a defensive calamity and Undav's tenacity three minutes into the second half.
>Finland tried to play out from a goal-kick but Ville Koski was slow to react and Undav dived in with a challenge which turned into a cross to present the Liverpool playmaker with the simplest of chances from eight yards.
>Nine minutes later Undav grabbed his second after latching onto Karl's through-ball to easily hold off Miettienen and slot home, but taking a blow in the process.
>Aleksandar Pavlovic then teed up Musiala to blast home left-footed from the edge of the area after Karl had been heavily involved in the build-up.
>Nagelsmann's men will face the U.S. in their final World Cup warm-up match in Chicago on June 6, before their opening match with Curacao on June 14 in Houston.
