San Francisco (26-38) opened a three-game series against the Cubs (33-31) on Friday. The Giants won the series opener, 18-3, at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois.

>Former Vol Drew Gilbert started in center field for San Francisco. He went 1-for-2 and scored one run.

>The Giants totaled seven home runs and 19 hits in Game 1. Willy Adames (two), Matt Chapman (two), Jonah Cox and Casey Schmitt (two) hit home runs for San Francisco.

>Seiya Suzuki started in right field for the Cubs and hit a solo home run in the eighth inning. He rehabbed with Double-A affiliate Knoxville in April.

>Friday's series opener also marked the first game for Tony Vitello managing at Wrigley Field. He is in first season as the Giants' manager after serving as Tennessee's baseball head coach from 2018-25.

>Game 2 between the Cubs and Giants is slated for 2:20 p.m. EDT on Saturday. A series finale will be contested June 7 at 8:30 p.m. EDT.
