>Casting the net around Xabi Alonso, Steven Gerrard, Isco, Frank Lampard, Paul Scholes, Roy Kean and David Silva, Gilmour went a little closer to home when asked to name the midfielder with the greatest aura.

>“McTominay,” he smiled, referring to his Napoli and Scotland teammate.

The 25-year-old came to Napoli from Brighton and Hove Albion in the summer of 2024 at a cost of €14.75m, but has struggled with repeated injury problems.

>He’s hoping that this season he can finally put them behind him, having made four appearances between Serie A and the Champions League, scoring one goal.
