Golf: Union County wins golf sectional title at Liberty

Thursday, the Lions golf team traveled to Liberty Country Club to compete in the sectional tournament hosted by Union County. The host Patriots finished with a score of 328 to win the championship.

>Richmond was second with 333 (tiebreaker). Franklin County was third with 333. The top three teams and top three individuals from non-advancing teams move on to the regional Thursday at Champions Point Golf Club in Henryville.

>Hagerstown was a shot back in fourth with 334 followed by Connersville 346, Northeastern 349, Centerville 361, Rushville 378, Cambridge City Lincoln 436 and Oldenburg Academy incomplete.

>Leading the way for the Lions was Ryder Flannery with an 82. This put him one shot out of a playoff for an individual regional qualifying position. Tressler Owens shot 91. Landon Cain carded a 98. Kanyon Sparks came in with 107 and Kyle Jacobs rounded out the Lions scoring with a 110.

>The individual sectional medalist was Richmond's Wyatt Carter with a 72. Second place went to Franklin County's Max Foster with a 77 and third was Union County's Nick Watterson with a 78.78.

>Qualifying as individuals for the regional were Noah Searcy from Hagerstown 80, Trey Hughes from Connersville 80, and Boston Beatty from Centerville 81. This ends the season for the Lions who look forward to having a lot of returning players next season.
