>After taking the opener of a four-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Arizona dropped the next two games, leaving Thursday night’s finale as an opportunity to salvage a split against the defending World Series champions.

>Los Angeles carried a 2-0 lead over the Snakes into the eighth inning, hoping its bullpen could finish off a shutout and secure the series. Arizona didn’t go quietly.

>Corbin Carroll connected for his ninth home run of the season, while timely hits from Gabriel Moreno, Ryan Waldschmidt and Geraldo Perdomo helped erase the deficit and send the game into the ninth inning tied at 2-2.

>Then Marte provided the biggest swing of the night.

>With one out in the bottom of the ninth, the All-Star wasted no time in his at-bat, connecting on Dodgers closer Tanner Scott’s 97-mph fastball low in the zone and launching a 431-foot home run to left field, securing the D-Backs’ 3-2 victory and a series split.

>Marte now owns the most walk-off hits in MLB this season with three. He’s just one walk-off hit away from matching the franchise record of four, shared by Paul Goldschmidt (2013), Justin Upton (2011) and Alex Cintron (2005).

>The second baseman’s season has featured its share of ups and downs, but he has continued to be one of the team’s most dependable performers in critical situations. Thursday’s walk-off was the latest example, helping Arizona secure a crucial series split and remain above .500 against one of baseball’s toughest opponents.

>While taking three of four from Los Angeles would have been an ideal outcome, the D-Backs can still leave the series with plenty of confidence. Arizona battled back from a late deficit, proving it can compete with one of the National League’s elite clubs.
