Human vs the algorithm: Comparing Steelers mock drafts

When it comes to mock draft simulations, the algorithm they use is intended to land a team the best picks based on available information. We put together our latest Pittsburgh Steelers mock draft for the 2027 NFL Draft and after making our picks, we went back and let the simulation make the picks to see how they compared.

First roundHuman pick - S Tae Johnson - Notre Dame

>Simulation - TE Jamari Johnson - Oregon

>We opted for Notre Dame safety Tae Johnson who we see as a true dual-threat safety and could be an immediate starter in place of DeShon Elliott or Jaquan Brisker. In the simulation, Johnson was already off the pick at pick No. 15 and instead opted for Oregon tight end Jamari Johnson. We love Johnson and the idea of a tight end because we have to wonder if Pat Freiermuth will still be on the team in 2027.

Second roundHuman pick - TE Trey'Dez Green - LSU

>Simulation - QB Drake Lindsey - Minnesota

>For us, we went with a tight end here and love the potential of Trey'Dez Green whose size and athleticism is incredible. The algorithm opted for Minnesota quarterback Drake Lindsey, but we are holding offon a quarterback as long as Will Howard and Drew Allar are battling it out.

Third round Human pick - LB Chris Cole - Georgia

>Simulation - S Amare Ferrell - Indiana

>We went with Georgia linebacker Chris Cole as the best coverage linebacker in the country and a great replacement for Patrick Queen. The simulation opted for Indiana safety Amare Ferrell, which lines up with one of the team's top needs.

Fourth round Human pick - WR Ian Strong - California

>Simulation - QB Julian Sayin - Ohio State

>It wasn't until the fourth round that the simulation glitched. The human pick here is huge California wide receiver Ian Strong to get the team another deep threat but the algorithm slipped up and gave Pittsburgh a second quarterback in Ohio State Julian Sayin.
