Injury depleted 49ers expected to sign Matt Judon to shore up defensive line

>Ten-year NFL veteran pass rusher Matt Judon said on social media that he expects to sign with the San Francisco 49ers on Monday. The 49ers are adding the four-time Pro Bowl selection with 72 career sacks after All-Pro pass rusher Nick Bosa suffered a calf strain in Thursday's practice that will sideline him for multiple weeks.

>Last week, the 49ers signed wide receiver Brandin Cooks, 33, to the practice squad after their wideout injury woes mounted when Demarcus Robinson suffered a high ankle sprain that landed him on injured reserve.

>As with Cooks, who had just 24 catches while playing for two teams last year, it's not clear what Judon has left. Last season, Judon had zero sacks and three quarterback hits while playing 368 snaps in 14 games with the Dolphins and Bills.

>The 49ers aren't in a position to be picky given their defensive line attrition. After defensive tackle Gracen Halton left Sunday's 36-30 win over the Cardinals with cramps, the 49ers were without seven of the nine defensive linemen who were on their initial 53-man roster.

>Judon, 34, told the All32's Arabia Tillery in an interview that he'd sign with the 49ers on Monday after working out for the team Saturday.

>"With all of the injuries piling up over there I think I can just come in and help until some of those guys get back," Judon said.

>Judon had 5.5 sacks in 2024 with the Falcons, when 49ers defensive coordinator Raheem Morris was Atlanta's head coach. Judon's last Pro Bowl season was in 2022 with the Patriots, when he had a career-high 15.5 sacks, ranking fourth in the NFL.
