“Intentional & Provocative” – MLB World Shocked By Ketel Marte’s ‘Bridges I Burn’ Hat During 1st Interview After Return From No-Show

Initially, Marte was placed on the restricted list, but three days later moved to the injured list due to slight inflammation in his left knee, leaving many questions unanswered.

>After his first game back on Monday night, which ended in a 2-1 loss to the Phillies at Chase Field, Marte was seen wearing a hat that read “May the bridges I burn light the way.” The hat caught fans’ attention on social media.

class="nordot-embed-twitter">Marte had earlier refused to comment when asked if he had a message for the fans during Monday night’s pre-game interview. The situation further intensified when he came out for his first at-bat in the second inning, as a wide section of Arizona fans booed the three-time All-Star.

Ketel Marte Says He Didn’t Know About the Hat He Was WearingWhen asked about the bright neon hat with the message, Ketel Marte bluntly denied knowing what he was wearing or what it meant.

“I didn’t know what it was. I didn’t know I had that hat on. I didn’t know; I just put it on,” Marte said to The Athletic via his interpreter.

Manager Torey Lovullo also refrained from commenting on the episode, only stating that he wanted to get past the Marte saga as soon as possible.

“I want to move past this Ketel stuff as quickly as possible. I think if you chop up those words, maybe he’s taking some accountability. He feels like he’s done some things, and he wants to get better. That’s how I read it,” Lovullo said.

The Diamondbacks lost Tuesday night’s game to the Phillies, 7-1, and have now fallen to 73-67, still 0.5 games behind the Padres for the final NL Wild Card spot.
