Which players should CSK release after eighth-place finish under Ruturaj Gaikwad? Here are four players CSK could release before the IPL 2027 mini-auction:
1) Kartik SharmaCSK made quite the buzz at the IPL 2026 auction when they bought uncapped Kartik Sharma for a whopping INR 14.5 crore. The massive investment on the young hard-hitting batter grabbed the headlines and the franchise expected Sharma to live up to the expectations.
>However, with the season now over and CSK finishing eighth on the points table, Kartik Sharma's performance was far from expectations as he managed to score just 295 runs in 11 outings. He maintained an average of 32.78 and batted at a strike rate of just 136.57. If CSK release Sharma, they will be able to add back the INR 14.5 crore to their purse before the next mini-auction.
2) Prashant VeerAnother massive investment for CSK at the IPL 2026 mini-auction was Prashant Veer, who commanded a similar price to that of Kartik Sharma, making him the joint most expensive signing last season.
>Like Sharma, Veer was also a major disappointment for CSK as he ended up playing only six matches, where he scored just 90 runs and bowled only 2 overs. Releasing the two expensive signings will add a combined INR 29 crore back to to CSK's purse ahead of the next auction.

3) Rahul ChaharThe experienced spinner, who had previously played for MI and PBKS, was signed by CSK for INR 5.2 crore. CSK hoped that in Chennai's spin-friendly track, Chahar could be a fruitful investment. Unfortunately, Chahar turned out to be a major disappointment, as he played just one game, where he conceded 46 runs in four overs.
4) Zak FoulkesThe young emerging New Zealand fast bowler was picked by CSK for just INR 75 lakhs and the management hoped that the 23-year-old would come in handy in certain matches during the IPL 2026 campaign.
>However, the Kiwi could not make his IPL debut this season as he remained sidelined with an ankle injury throughout the campaign.
