The Seacoast high school Athletes of the Week for the week of June 1-6 are Portsmouth High School baseball player Jackson Hooper and Winnacunnet High School girls lacrosse player Benten Lyford.

>The weekly polls run each Monday through midnight Thursday, and can be found at seacoastonline.com/sports and fosters.com/sports. The honors are presented by York County Community College.

>Lyford joins previous girls winners this spring: Oyster River High School softball player Clare Dimke, Portsmouth High School softball player Kora Douglass, Exeter track athlete Karlee Norris, Traip Academy girls lacrosse player Sam Latchaw, Spaulding softball player Meagan Uraskevich, Winnacunet softball player Lucy Gelbstein and Exeter girls lacrosse player Riley Benevides.

>Hooper joins previous boys winners this spring: Portsmouth High School outdoor track athlete Leo Guarracino, Oyster River High School baseball player Colin Veroneau, Spaulding High School boys lacrosse player Maverick Cates, Oyster River High School baseball player James Saunders and Spaulding High School track athlete Caleb Plante, Spaulding baseball player Garrett Truax, Winnacunnet baseball player Harvey Reynoso and Exeter baseball player Ethan Battles.

>Hooper won the online poll by receiving nearly 30% of the votes, totaling 334. Oyster River lacrosse player Demitrius Tsakiris finished second with 281 votes.

>Winnacunnet lacrosse player Spencer Zigler had 232 votes, Exeter lacrosse player Alex Carrigan had 151 votes and St. Thomas Aquinas baseball player Conall Ciaschini had 120 votes, rounding out the five nominees.

>Hooper provided a clutch two-run single to give Portsmouth a 5-3 lead in an eventual 6-5 Division I quarterfinal upset win over Exeter on Saturday, June 6.

>"Jackson is well deserving of this honor as he capped off an excellent season with a strong finish when we needed it most," Portsmouth head coach Tim Hopley said. "He showed great growth throughout the year and is primed to have a big senior season in 2027."

>Lyford won the online poll by receiving nearly 50% of the votes, totaling 469. Portsmouth lacrosse player Raegan Lawton finished second with 213 votes.

>Newmarket softball player Brielle Duffy had 112 votes, St. Thomas Aquinas lacrosse player Julia Bryan had 110 votes and Traip Academy outdoor track athlete Jacqueline Diallo had 103 votes, to round out the five nominees.

>Lyford recorded six saves for Winnacunnet in a Division II semifinal win over Goffstown, 11-6, Saturday, June 6; Lyford also had five saves in the Warriors' Division II quarterfinal win over Merrimack.

>"Benton is clearly deserving of this award," Winnacunnet head coach Glenn McKenzie said. "She not only had an outstanding week, but a remarkable season. 108 saves for the year is extraordinary against such strong competition."
