MILWAUKEE — For the second time ever, the Kiel girls soccer team reached the state championship on June 20.
>This time though it ended with a 2-0 loss to McFarland in the WIAA Division 3 title game.
>It was the fifth-straight trip to state for the Raiders, and second in D3.

>It was an amazing season for Kiel, which entered the state championship undefeated in 26 matches before falling to McFarland.
>McFarland went up 1-0 in the 25th minute when Bergen Weststrum chipped the ball from outside the box over Kiel goalkeeper Mya Langenfeld.
>After leading 1-0 at halftime, the Spartans doubled their lead in the 49th minute as Allison Charbonneau received a cross from Alex Faust before slotting it home.

>Senior Taavi Saeger, who had three goals in the state semifinals the day before, finished the season tied for second in the state with 52 goals.

>She also led the state with 125 points and ends her career as Kiel's all-time leader in points scored, overtaking the record previously held by Taylor Schad.
>McFarland had surrendered only two goals all season entering the state championship so scoring on the Spartans was going to be a tough task.
>Kiel was outshot 15-5 in the match and 7-3 in shots on goal.
