As LSU embarks on the first campaign under new head coach Lane Kiffin, it has added one of the nation's most sought-after transfer quarterbacks.
>Sam Leavitt arrives in Baton Rouge with high expectations after two impressive seasons at Arizona State, but he's been limited this offseason as he battles a foot injury suffered last season. That injury ended his 2025 campaign in October, and after undergoing surgery in November, he was held out of spring ball as he recovers.
>Now, as the Tigers prepare for fall camp, Leavitt is close to full strength.
>"He's doing well, he's been out there pretty much full strength now," Kiffin said during a recent appearance on "In The Bayou with Tyrann Mathieu," per CBS Sports. "Really good arm. Really smart, and he's just in there grinding all the time on stuff. NFL mindset quarterback from a preparation standpoint, and now we've just got to put everything together in Year 1. Little bit late because he's just finally cleared now with a lot of new pieces around, but it's going to be a big summer and fall camp."
>Leavitt, who began his career at Michigan State, is now at his third school. In two seasons in Tempe, he threw for more than 4,500 yards with 34 touchdowns to nine interceptions. He also added 749 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground and is 16-4 as a starter.
>LSU faces College Football Playoff expectations in Kiffin's first season, and grabbing one of the most coveted quarterbacks on the market is a primary reason.
