Lyon’s technical director on Tyler Morton: ‘We absolutely want to keep him.’Olympique Lyonnais’ technical director, Matthieu Louis-Jean, has asserted his desire to retain England youth international Tyler Morton (23) this summer.

>Speaking to RMC Sport show Rothen s’enflamme, Louis-Jean confirmed that at least two players would have to be sold this summer in order to align with the plan set by UEFA and the DNCG, French football’s financial watchdog. Louis-Jean added that more than two players could depart, but five are considered untransferable by the club, who have qualified for the preliminary rounds of next season’s UEFA Champions League.

>Dominik Greif, Moussa Niakhaté, Corentin Tolisso and one of Afonso Moreira and Malick Fofana will be retained, as well as Morton. On the former Liverpool midfielder, Louis-Jean said, “We absolutely want to keep him. He is part of the core of the squad. He can still progress a lot. For us, it is important to continue with him.”

>In his debut season at Lyon, following his €10m move from Liverpool, Morton made 43 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals and registering three assists in that time. He helped the club to a fourth-place finish in Ligue 1 and his current deal runs until 2030.
