Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams built quite the legacy for himself in his sophomore season, with his incredibly playmaking abilities and leadership to will his team to several fourth-quarter comeback victories.

>Williams also engineered some of the biggest throws across the NFL in the 2025 season, including a game-tying heave to tight end Cole Kmet in the NFC divisional playoff matchup against the Los Angeles Rams that sent Soldier Field into a frenzy, although the Bears lost the game in overtime.

>On the other side of the field sat Rams quarterback, Super Bowl champion and MVP winner Matthew Stafford, who was in awe by the play Williams made and how it all unfolded in his eyes. Speaking to former NFL defensive end Chris Long on his "Green Light" podcast, Stafford discussed what he saw from the Bears quarterback in one of the most electrifying moments of last season, and how he had to respond afterwards.

>"He launches the freaking NFL Blitz jump throw for a touchdown, I was like 'What the hell is this?'" Stafford told Long. "Every snow game is a little bit different, they're all different, they're a lot of fun to play in, except when you're playing Caleb Williams and he sprints back to the 50 and launches the freaking NFL Blitz jump throw for a touchdown. I think he's just like with the ball in his hand, it's as scary as anybody for sure. You don't know what's going to happen. He was running back to the 50 and I was in my head thinking 'Oh, sweet. All right here we go, what are we doing here?' Then he launches it and I was like 'Oh that looks good' and then they caught. But then you have to move on quickly."

>It's always fun to get reaction from opposing quarterbacks when stellar plays are made on one side of the field, and given Stafford's pedigree and resume, it's very high praise for how Williams wowed him in their playoff matchup last season. Williams will look to take the next step in his career development in 2026, the second season in which he'll work under head coach Ben Johnson, and if he can do the small things as well as he did the jaw-dropping plays last season, then Chicago could see plenty of success this year.
