Mourinho asks Real Madrid to keep 2025 summer signing; 26-year-old defender likely to be sacrificed – report

class="wp-block-paragraph">The arrival of Marc Cucurella from Chelsea has significantly increased competition in the position at Real Madrid, leaving the club with an overcrowded situation that now appears unsustainable heading into the new season.

>

class="wp-block-paragraph">With as many as four players competing for minutes, Real Madrid are expected to sanction at least one departure in the coming weeks as they look to balance the squad and recover part of their recent transfer investment.

>

class="wp-block-paragraph">According to El Chiringuito TV, Jose Mourinho has already made an important decision regarding one of the contenders for that role.

>

class="wp-block-paragraph">Questions were also raised regarding his performances, with previous assessments reportedly leaving doubts over whether he would form part of Real Madrid’s plans moving forward.

>

class="wp-block-paragraph">However, the situation appears to have shifted and Mourinho has now personally asked Carreras to remain at the club, a decision that could have major consequences for the rest of the left-back department.

>

class="wp-block-paragraph">The Portuguese coach is now believed to see enough potential in the Spaniard to continue working with him next season, despite earlier concerns surrounding his development.

>

class="wp-block-paragraph">That vote of confidence will effectively influence the battle for places on the left side of the defence.

Fran Garcia now facing uncertain future

class="wp-block-paragraph">With Cucurella arriving and Carreras seemingly receiving Mourinho’s backing, Fran Garcia has emerged as the player most likely to leave Real Madrid this summer.

class="wp-block-paragraph">The former Rayo Vallecano defender already came close to securing a move away from the club during the January transfer window, when Bournemouth showed strong interest in bringing him to the Premier League.

>

class="wp-block-paragraph">Although that deal never materialised, the circumstances have changed considerably since then.

>

class="wp-block-paragraph">Garcia now faces even greater competition for minutes, making a transfer increasingly attractive for both player and club.

>

class="wp-block-paragraph">On that note, several teams are monitoring the situation closely, including Real Betis, who are believed to be interested in bringing him back to La Liga.

>

class="wp-block-paragraph">There is also reported interest from clubs in England and other major European leagues, although no decision has been made by Real Madrid yet.
