The NFL recently announced that the roster cutdown to 53 players deadline will be pushed up slightly this year. Rather than players having to be finalized by the Tuesday following the preseason finale, teams will now only have up to Sunday, August 30, at 6:00 p.m. EST, a full two-day jump.

class="has-text-align-none">In addition to roster cuts, the timeline move also means that waiver claims will need to be turned in by teams by the next day at 1:00 p.m. EST ahead of the regular season kickoff on September 9th this year.

class="has-text-align-none">This decision from the league will force coaches and front office members of the NFL organizations to make some tough decisions earlier than they have grown accustomed to. Although teams may still fill out a full 90-man roster up until the mandatory cut day, the number has got to get whittled down to 53 regardless. It will certainly be interesting to see how teams handle the adjustment this offseason.
