Is New England Patriots star Christian Gonzalez the best cover corner in the NFL?

>CBS Sports ranked Gonzalez No. 4 overall in their cornerback rankings this summer.

>“Gonzalez is a smooth operator with elite top-end speed and terrific length to boot,” CBS Sports’ analysts said. “After an injury-derailed rookie year, he was a second-team All-Pro in 2024 and a Pro Bowler last year. He defended an NFL-high seven passes last postseason.”

>CBS Sports ranked Pat Surtain II, Derek Stingley Jr. and Devon Witherspoon higher than Gonzalez.

>Gonzalez recorded 11 passes defensed in 2025. He recorded an interception and seven passes defensed in the playoffs last season and helped the Patriots win the AFC Championship Game and get to the Super Bowl.

>Gonzalez will get the chance to prove his ranking in the upcoming 2026 season. He will again start for the Patriots at cornerback next season, with the chance to garner another All-Pro nod after not receiving one last season.
