Potts determined to seize West Ham chance

>The 22-year-old midfielder spent time on loan in the second tier and believes the demands of the division have made him a better player as the Hammers target an immediate return to the Premier League.

>"I want to play as much as I can for West Ham this season," Potts told BBC Radio London.

>"I want to show that I've got the experience in the Championship from before with previous clubs. I'm excited for the challenge that comes ahead."

>Potts believes his loan spells have given him a valuable insight into what it takes to succeed in one of English football's most demanding divisions.

>The academy graduate spent time on loan at Portsmouth (2024-25) and Wycombe Wanderers (2023-24) before linking back up with his parent club last year.

>"I've been here before from a different point of view with a club that had just come up," he added.

>"You realise every game is a tough game and the stadiums you go to this year will be different to what they're like in the Premier League. They'll be tough and nasty."

>The England Under-21 international says adapting to the Championship has been the biggest test of his career so far.

>"It's the biggest learning curve I've had going into the Championship.

>"It's a different physical test. You've got to be ready to play three days after, you've got to stay fresh, stay fit and keep your mindset right."

>"I think it's very big news for all of us. From the top of the club down, it shows the ambition and desire to get into the Premier League again, where this club belongs.

>"I think it's going to be a very good season for us."

>He also praised the backing of West Ham supporters ahead of the new campaign.

>"We can see the love for the club from the fans, and we want to replicate that on the pitch," Potts said.

>"We're very confident going into this season that we can achieve the goal that everyone wants to achieve and no doubt the fans will back us.

>"It's a real strong message that they've got our backs. It's good to see their trust in the club. We want to go straight back up with them."
