Real Madrid midfielder insists he has reached a new level despite setbacksAs was the case with everyone at Real Madrid, the midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni also did not have a memorable 2025-26 season. However, unlike most of his teammates at the white club, the Frenchman himself was embroiled in one of the most blazing controversies surrounding the Merengue club, i.e., his fight with his fellow midfielder, Federico Valverde.
>It is already several weeks since that incident took place, and the French anchorman recently revealed that he and the Uruguayan have already gotten over that matter. For now, he is training with his French national team, aiming for glory in the World Cup, to end an otherwise forgettable year with something to celebrate.
>Ahead of his side’s opening match of the competition, against Senegal on Tuesday, he appeared in an interview with l’Equipe. As Diario AS has reported, he talked about the disappointing last season with the Merengue club, in which he still had taken a step up.
>Tchouameni was not too keen to endure another trophyless season with Real Madrid:
>“Allow it? No. It could still happen, but it would be a shame. We still have a small chance to win a title that would be the most beautiful of them all.”
>Meanwhile, the midfielder was clear that he had taken another step in his career in the last two seasons with Real Madrid:
>“Yes. Even from the second half of last season, when I started to raise my level. And this year, because of my performances in the big matches. It has also helped that I’ve been playing consistently in midfield.
>People criticized me when I played as a centre-back, and I replied that it wasn’t my position. But people don’t always pay attention to that. Still, I have no problem with it. One day they praise you, the next they say you’re bad. What does that mean? It means nothing. It’s just everyone’s opinion.”
>During Xabi Alonso’s brief tenure at the helm of the team, Aurelien Tchouameni remained one of the most important players in the team, playing a pivotal role from the root of the midfield. He retained this importance with the arrival of Alvaro Arbeloa as well, though the team’s overall form had declined significantly in the second half of the season.
>The fact that he did not have to play a lot in the backline also helped in this regard. Hopefully, he would continue at this level for Real Madrid as he gets to play under yet another coach, Jose Mourinho, after playing for France in the World Cup.
