Report: Rams have made calls about trading up and down in Round 1

The Los Angeles Rams are set to pick earlier than they have in any of the last nine years, holding the 13th overall selection in the first round. The last time they picked this high was in 2016 when they took Jared Goff first overall.

That doesn't mean they're certain to stay at 13, though. According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, the Rams have explored the possibility of trading up, and they've also made calls about moving down the board.

Four that have at least explored moving up (with a caveat coming), in order of where they’re picking: the Chiefs, Cowboys, Rams and Eagles. And, yes, I could see a scenario where each of them moves, which we did mention in Tuesday’s notes column. But the twist to it is that I’ve heard that all four have also made calls on the idea of trading down.

Breer speculated who the Rams might be targeting if they trade up from No. 13, naming two enticing prospects: running back Jeremiyah Love and wideout Jordyn Tyson.

"For the Rams, my guess would be a skill guy, like Notre Dame’s Jeremiyah Love or Tyson," he wrote.

The Rams have three picks in the top 100, so they have enough capital to move up if they want. But they also don't have any fourth- or fifth-round picks, which makes trading back and adding mid-round selections enticing.

Les Snead did say earlier this offseason that the Rams were OK trading away Day 3 picks for Trent McDuffie because they feel the class thins out late, so maybe he's not interested in acquiring more late-round picks in this year's draft.

We'll soon find out which direction the Rams go.
