Photo by Marcin Golba/NurPhoto via Getty ImagesShemeka Mitchell’s statement about Caitlin Clark possibly winning Game 7 if she played has not been taken well by many.
>The Atlanta Dream suffered a 68-63 loss at the hands of the Golden State Valkyries, who became the first expansion team in US history to win a championship in Year 2.
>Angel Reese, who has been one of the best players on the Dream, scored only 8 points. Her difficulty scoring made things tougher for the Dream to find any rhythm in the second half, as they were contained to just 33 points.
>Mitchell, who has been a long-time critic of Reese took her poor performance in Game 7 as a chance to take a dig at her.
>“Caitlin Clark would’ve won,” wrote Mitchell.
Fans criticise Shemeka Mitchell for her Caitlin Clark admission While she has been open about speaking against Angel Reese, Mitchell is a firm supporter of Caitlin Clark and defended her when the Indiana Fever star was criticised after Kelsey Mitchell’s comments about being her teammate made rounds around the internet.
>This time, however, her support for Clark backfired as Reese’s fans were quick to shut down her remarks about the Finals.
“She was on the couch. Anyway, The Bay is different!! Caitlin would’ve got swept,” said one fan. While another added: “Couldn’t beat a team that the champs swept.”
>Someone posed a question: “How can you realistically argue that she had a chance of winning the championship when she couldn’t even navigate her way past the first round? On what basis, then, do you contend that she could have gone all the way?”
>One fan reminded Mitchell: “CC ain’t make it out the first round. Her team made it to the conference finals without her. Hope this helps.” “Like she did in college, huh?” another account on X posted.
>Clark has played in 5 playoff games throughout her time in Indiana and won just one game. Reese, on the other hand, played in her first postseason and helped the Dream make it to Game 7 of the WNBA Finals. While this is not an indication of who among the two is the better player, Clark will have to improve her playoff record if Mitchell is to continue making bold statements.
