Shin stutters to win in Scotland as players prepare for Women's Open

AIG Women's Open takes place at Royal Lytham & St Annes from Thursday, live on Sky Sports; Nelly Korda, a two-time major winner this year, shoots three-under final round in Scotland as Jenny Shin secures first title since 2016 despite final-round wobble

>Jenny Shin stuttered over the line at the ISPS HANDA Women's Scottish Open to secure her first LPGA Tour title in a decade with England's defending champion Lottie Woad finishing tied-37th as players prepared for next week's AIG Women's Open.

>South Korean golfer Shin ended two strokes clear of compatriot A-Lim Kim on nine under par after bogeying two of her final three holes on Sunday to sign for a three-over 75, having begun round four with a five-shot advantage over Thailand's Pajaree Anannarukarn.

>The 33-year-old suffered three bogeys in a row from the sixth but her birdies at 10 and 12 proved crucial following her sluggish end to the round as Kim's four-under 68 came in vain at Dundonald Links.

>Shin was emotional as she clinched her first trophy since the Volunteers of America Texas Shootout in May 2016 - she is the first woman in 30 years to go a full decade between LPGA Tour wins - and can now switch focus to the major at Royal Lytham and St Annes.

>She said: "My first title didn't really feel like a win at the time. I didn't feel like I deserved it. It felt very accidental. But this one definitely feels a lot different, feels like I earned it. I worked hard for it."

>Woad - whose victory in Ayrshire last year was her first as a pro and came a few weeks after she had won the Women's Irish Open as an amateur - closed out her week with a one-over 73 to finish on seven over, with most of the damage done by a six-over 78 on Saturday.

>Charley Hull, who started her tournament with a 78, ended up in a share of 44th place on 10 over after shooting 74 on Sunday.

>Ireland's Leona Maguire claimed a top-10 finish on one under after a final-round 70 took her into the red, with Alice Hewson, on three over, the highest-placed British golfer in a share of 19th spot.

>Reigning Women's Open champion Miyu Yamashita - who triumphed by two strokes from fellow Japanese Minami Katsu and England's Hull at Royal Porthcawl in 2025 - finished tied-fifth on three under in Scotland ahead of her title defence in Lancashire from Thursday.

>World No 1 Nelly Korda will be aiming for a third major title of the year and fifth of her career after victories at the Chevron Championship and US Women's Open this term.

>The American will head to Royal Lytham & St Annes following a finish of tied-16th at the Scottish Open, shooting her best round of the week on Sunday - a three-under 69 - to end on two over par.

>This year's other double major winner - Women's PGA and Evian champion Haeran Ryu - did not play at the Scottish Open.
