Nebraska football fans always have strong reactions to change and Saturday night proved to be no different. The Huskers unveiled new uniforms for the 2026 season during Saturday night's Battle of the Boneyard 7-on-7 tournament.
>The new uniform is inspired by what the school describes as 'classic Husker football design elements.' The jersey has two stripes across the shoulders, with player numbers featured on the sleeves.
>The jersey number font draws inspiration from the numbers engraved on an anvil. The numbers also feature interior lines inspired by crop rows, reflecting the state's agricultural heritage.
>The new uniforms were designed by Nebraska's apparel partner, Adidas. Deputy AD/Chief Operating Officer of Husker Athletics, Haven Fields, talked about the importance that a uniform change can have on a brand as iconic as Nebraska.
“Recruiting is undeniably the lifeblood of competitive success, and young kids want to wear something sleek, modern, fast, and fashionable. These updates will give a cutting edge to the iconic Nebraska brand. We are proud of the final product and excited for the 2026 season.”
The helmet will not change, and the helmet N will remain on the front of the pants. Nebraska has used alternate uniforms before but has not changed the home and away looks since 2002, a change that lasted only one season. — Justin Frommer (@JustinbFrommer) June 21, 2026Curious move
Personally don’t mind the font for the numbers
Removing the patch and not including any other prominent Nebraska branding is a curious move though https://t.co/gDS7zaMLZL
— Tim Verghese (@TimVerghese) June 21, 2026Remember 2002?
The new era of Nebraska fans will remember these uniforms the same way the old era remembers these ones https://t.co/dBfwTnGXLApic.twitter.com/DQX9wZmq4a

I’m indifferent on them. Don’t care about the uniforms just go win 9+ games 👀✌️ https://t.co/ybeLcbgrnB
— Rhuler of Husker Nation (@RHULEROFNEB) June 21, 2026Not a fan
I love Nebraska’s clean scarlet-and-white scheme, and I love the traditionalist nature of their uniforms. They have one of the best and most time-honored looks in CFB.
It brings me no joy to say that I really hate this update to their uniform package. https://t.co/gsA8U3TsaY
— Parker Thune (@ParkerThune) June 21, 2026Concerning
Oh. Oh no. Nebraska…. These would be a decent alternate… but as the “core” home and road unis I just can’t get with it for the huskers. The texture in the numbers is neat, the shoulder stripes make no sense. The font is not great, the pant stripe is dated…. Man this is… https://t.co/bkUr5ueja2
— Chad Fields (Vols Uniform Boy) (@CfieldsVFL) June 21, 2026Unpopular opinion
Seemingly an unpopular opinion, but I like the new Nebraska football uniforms. Clean look. https://t.co/QpCgSDflDS
— Kyler Cox (@DugoutCox) June 21, 2026Practice uniforms
These legitimately look like practice uniforms lol https://t.co/KWveIgUowP
— Rick Saratoga (@toga_party_) June 21, 2026Posible interpretation
The uniforms appear to be inspired (ish) by the 1968 / 1969 look... which may be why the "NU" helmet was teased in the video.
But if I had to guess, we do not see the "NU" helmet in 2026.

Uniform rating 6.8/10
Numbers: 4.8 Stripe placement: 8.7 Sleeves: 7.9 Patches/Emblems: 5.8 Pants: 6.6
The stripe placement and sleeves are the strengths. I miss the Tradition patch A LOT since that was the unique touch. Numbers are like Virginia Tech :') As long as players like…
— Connor Hayden (@corncrazed_) June 21, 2026That's true
I like these. They're different for sure. Too many people complaining because some Nebraska fans are never gonna be happy. https://t.co/Lr7vedU3HS
— Brian Moore GBR (@KCHusker24) June 21, 2026Where's the patch?
Quick thoughts (much more to come at HuskerMax)
>Why try to fix what wasn't broken? >Pick a stripe size and go with it. >Does the "winning tradition" patch have to be re-earned? >I can get on board with the number font. https://t.co/nktnlGLcJN
— Dave Feit (@FeitCanWrite) June 21, 2026Two thumbs up
