Russell Wilson, the former Seattle Seahawks star quarterback, announced his retirement from the NFL on Wednesday, June 3.

>Wilson earned 10 Pro Bowl selections during his career, including nine during a decorated 10-year run in Seattle. He finished inside the top five of Offensive Player of the Year voting on four occasions and was named a second-team All-Pro in 2019.

>His crowning achievement came in the 2013 season, when he guided the Seahawks to their first Super Bowl title — punctuating the run with a dominant 43-8 win over the Denver Broncos. His best chance at a second title, though, ended in one of the most famous moments in NFL history, when he threw a goal-line interception into the arms of New England’s Malcolm Butler at State Farm Stadium in Glendale.

>That was the rare occasion on which Wilson was unable to find success at State Farm Stadium. He finished his career 11-8-1 against the Cardinals with 32 touchdowns, nine interceptions and 4,428 passing yards, along with 569 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground. He was even more effective on the road in Glendale, going 8-2-1 against the Cardinals at State Farm Stadium.

>Wilson, though, struggled mightily after leaving Seattle. He failed to establish himself after a blockbuster trade to the Denver Broncos, then spent the past two seasons as a sporadic starter with the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants.

>Earlier this week, he accepted a deal with CBS to join its NFL pregame show, signaling his intention to retire prior to the official announcement.
