Swampcast talks Florida football coach Jon Sumrall going viral at 2026 SECMD

Florida football coach Jon Sumrall displayed a mix of his intense and authentic personality at 2026 SEC Football Media Days in Tampa on July 22.

>It culminated by Sumrall joking he was going to "throw the podium" at a reporter who inadvertently left his cell phone as he took questions from reporters.

>The clip went viral on social media and some took it the wrong way. But Abadie said it's just an example of the personality that Sumrall has shown in his eight months on the job as Florida Gators coach.

>"Sumrall's candidness stole the show," Abadie said. "He went into it unintentionally which is why it was so refreshing to see. You'd like to see him back it up with wins of course but not once it was, we're gonna win this, we're going to win that. It was more like, we've got to get better or else .. he's honest about it and that's why so many people like it."

>Ram said Sumrall's brashness rubbed off on the players who took the podium UF, which included running back Jadan Baugh, linebacker Myles Graham and wide receiver Vernell Brown III.

>"Even though guys like Vernell Brown, who have only been one year in the SEC and have won four games, they're acting like they belong because that's the example that's being set to them by their coach," Ram said.

>Later in the podcast, Brockway discussed the quarterback competition between redshirt sophomore Aaron Philo and redshirt freshman Tramell Jones Jr. heading into fall camp.

>"(Sumrall) talked about how he played two quarterbacks at Troy," Brockway said. "So, this could even stretch into Week 3 to Auburn, where you may probably see both guys for a half the first two weeks of the season."
