Tennessee baseball to play VCU in Chapel Hill Regional elimination game

CHAPEL HILL, NC – Tennessee baseball will play VCU in an elimination game in its NCAA Tournament regional.

>The No. 2 seed Vols (38-21) and No. 4 seed Rams (37-24) both dropped into the losers bracket of the Chapel Hill Regional and will play at Boshamer Stadium on May 30 at noon. The winner will play another elimination game on May 31 at noon against the loser of No. 1 seed North Carolina (46-11-1) vs. No. 3 seed East Carolina (37-22-1).

>No. 25 Tennessee started regional play with a 7-3 loss to ECU in 14 innings. VCU fell to host North Carolina 8-0 in its first game.

>Tennessee owns a streak of five consecutive super regional appearances, making the College World Series three times in that span. To extend that streak, it will need to win four consecutive games, including two straight against the winner of North Carolina vs. East Carolina, should Tennessee advance to the regional final.

>The Vols’ last time not making it out of a regional was in 2019, also at Boshamer Stadium when they lost to North Carolina in the Chapel Hill Regional final.

>VCU has made one super regional in its history, winning the Dallas Regional over host Dallas Baptist as a No. 4 seed in 2015.
