SAN MARCOS - Texas State football's nonconference slate is nearly over, with Saturday's matchup against Incarnate Word being the final test before Pac-12 play begins.

>The Bobcats rallied after a tough loss to the UTSA Roadrunners by defeating the North Texas Mean Green 49-35 in an offensive slugfest. Texas State quarterback Brad Jackson got back on track, while the defense showed flashes of previously untapped potential in the second half.

UIW has won the Southland Conference three times this decade. Bobcats head coach GJ Kinne led one of those titles, leading the Cardinal to a 12-2 record in 2022 before leaving for San Marcos. Clint Killough took over in 2023 and is 27-13 in his fourth season coaching UIW. After a disappointing 5-7 campaign in 2025, Killough overhauled the roster and hopes to bring the university back to its winning ways.

>Texas State's depth at wide receiver is one of its strengths, but early injuries have tested it. Beau Sparks and Zechariah Sample were not 100% despite playing against North Texas, and Kylen Evans left the game with a shoulder injury. The Bobcats' trench play has been excellent so far, paving paths for running backs Torrance Burgess Jr. and Davian Jackson.
