Well, we're halfway through The Open … and things got a bit chaotic on Friday night.

>Lucas Herbert fired a historic 8-under 62 at Royal Birkdale on Friday to jump out in front of the field. He's carrying a 2-shot lead over the field into Moving Day, and holds the advantage in the final major championship of the season.

>But it's Bryson DeChambeau who has dominated the British Open so far, both in good ways and bad.

>DeChambeau walked off the final green on Friday at 7-under par, just one shot off the lead after two of his best major rounds of the year. The LIV Golf star, remember, had missed the cut at the previous three major championships and really struggled across the board. Suddenly, he was back in the mix.

>But then, chaos ensued. DeChambeau was hit with a two-shot penalty for manipulating his lie earlier in the second round, but only after a long, animated discussion with R&A offiicals. DeChambeau even reportedly threatened to withdraw from the tournament, though he confirmed later on that he'd remain.

>So now, DeChambeau is three shots off the lead with 36 holes to go. He's still the biggest name at the top of the leaderboard, sitting among several relative unknowns.

>We'll see how he bounces back here soon.
